The First Affiliated Hospital of China Medical University is a large comprehensive tertiary first-class hospital, and also a hospital with glorious revolutionary tradition.

The First Hospital of China Medical University was born in the early twentieth century. Its predecessors can be traced back to Fujian Changting Gospel Hospital (formerly Yasungton Hospital) and Shenyang Nanmanzhou Railway Company Fengtian Hospital, which were founded in October 1908 at the same time. The early growth of the hospital was closely linked with the revolutionary process led by the Communist Party of China. In 1933, the Gospel Hospital was adapted to the Central Red Hospital, and then to the Affiliated Hospital of the Red Army School of Health for Workers and Peasants of China. Later, it was renamed the Affiliated Hospital of the Chinese Medical University in Yan'an. In 1948, Shenyang Liberation, the hospital accepted the original Shenyang Medical College. The former is Fengtian Hospital of South Manchuria Railway Company.

Over the past 60 years since the founding of the People's Republic of China, the hospital has been growing steadily through the arduous efforts of several generations. Today, the First Hospital of China Medical University has a great deal of talents and fruitful results. With the strength of talents and technical advantages, it has developed into a well-known regional emergency and critical care center at home and abroad, and enjoys a high reputation in the health sector at home and abroad. As a diagnostic and treatment center for difficult, urgent and serious diseases in Liaoning Province, it is also one of the only 11 national emergency medical rescue centers and one of the four primary trauma treatment centers designated by the National Health and Family Planning Commission in Northeast China. Hospitals are engaged in fighting against SARS, hand, foot and mouth disease, influenza and earthquake relief and other major emergencies. It has made outstanding contributions and has been recognized and commended by the state and the World Health Organization.

At the beginning of 2014, the new leading group further clarified the functional orientation of the hospital: taking the establishment of national regional medical centers as the goal, taking reform as the driving force, focusing on the development of new and high technology, promoting the development of disciplines; strengthening the construction of hospital informatization, making the outpatient service process more standardized, improving patients'medical experience; actively practicing public service. In order to improve the medical level of grass-roots hospitals, our support work adheres to the principle of "giving equal attention to blood transfusion and hematopoiesis", and strengthens the training of grass-roots medical institutions and doctors, so as to significantly improve the medical technology and service capacity of recipient hospitals.

The hospital has 335,000 square meters of floor space, 2,249 beds and 4350 employees, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 3 professors specially appointed by Jiang Scholars, Minister of Education, 1 winner of the Outstanding Youth Fund, 545 professors and associate professors, and the chairman (including honorary, former) of the Special Branch of the Chinese Medical Association.
